Atmosphere

Whispering Canyon Café is one of our favorite resort dining options. This restaurant is in the Wilderness Lodge Resort with seating overlooking the lobby.

We recently dined here on a Friday morning and would highly recommend booking a dining reservation.

We drove our car to the Wilderness Lodge Resort and were able to park on property. If you do not have a car at your disposal, you can take an Uber/Lyft or utilize the Disney bus system to get to the lodge. While it may be a harder resort to access, the breakfast experience is worth it!

When entering the lodge, you are greeted with incredible architecture modeled after a luxurious log cabin. This theming is carried over to the restaurant and its staff. It’s always nice to dine here during the Christmas season as the wilderness lodge is known for their giant Christmas tree set up in the lobby.

While this is not a character dining experience, there are plenty of antics going on to keep everyone in your party entertained. From throwing out straws and napkins, to asking for ketchup (don’t unless you are okay with yelling to the whole restaurant!) and ending with the possibility of canyon jail. There is never a dull moment!

The welcome sign even notes that “The goings-on can get a little loud, and that’s just the way we like it”.

If shenanigans are not your cup of tea, you can always let your server know. In my experience, they will usually dial back the interactions. However, if you love this type of entertainment, I recommend also checking out 50’s Prime Time Café in Hollywood Studios where you are sure to get a great meal and lots of fun!

Mighty Fine Food

Whispering Canyon Café is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The menu follows the same theming for all dining times and I believe it is one of the best value options for table dining at Disney. You are sure to get plenty to eat!

The most popular items are their breakfast skillets. There are three main options:

Heritage Skillet: This includes House-made Buttermilk-Cheddar Biscuits and Sausage Gravy with Scrambled Eggs, Country Potatoes, Hickory-smoked Bacon, Pork Sausage Links, and Mickey-shaped Waffles.

The Carnivore Skillet: House-made Cornbread with HoneyButter, Maple-Chipotle Barbecued Slow-smoked Pork Ribs, Oak-smoked Beef Brisket, Barbecued Pulled Pork, Citrus-Herb Chicken, Country Potatoes, Buttered Corn, and Charred Carrots.

The Lighter Side Skillet: Bircher Muesli (Swiss Oatmeal), Fresh Fruit, and Yogurt with Egg White-Spinach Frittata, Turkey Bacon, Turkey Sausage, Country Potatoes, Mickey-shaped Waffles

The full menu can be found on Disney’s website located here.

A must have is the POG Juice. This is a blend of Passionfruit, Orange and Guava. It is delicious and a must try on your next visit. It is offered all over the Disney properties but often goes by different names depending on where you order it.

Allergies

I have a gluten and dairy allergy, so like all Disney restaurants, the waiter confirmed my allergy at check in. There are still plenty of options to choose from as most everything could be modified to accommodate my allergies.  The allergy friendly menu has highlighted all the common allergens and what can be avoided.

I was also given the opportunity to speak to the Chef should I have any concerns. This seems to be common practice for allergies and has happened at other locations such as Chef Mickey’s and Cape May Café. However, I am comfortable ordering from the menu, so I typically decline.

As always, the allergy friendly items are served with the allergy stick to provide confirmation that it is safe to consume. This really helps give peace of mind!

Breakfast

I ordered the breakfast Heritage Skillet which contained scrambled eggs, country potatoes, hickory-smoked bacon and pork sausage links. It also came with Mickey-shaped Waffles (allergy-friendly of course) and you can sub toast for biscuits and gravy.

The food quality was on par with most other Disney breakfast restaurants, however, the skillets are “all-you-care-to-enjoy”. Our waiter checked in periodically to see if we needed to order any extras and was great about bringing out the food quickly.

I ordered extra Mickey waffles, and they brought out a separate allergy friendly butter as well as an individual container of syrup.

During the meal, we watched as many tables enjoyed the waiters’ antics (thankfully ours was calm). Our favorite was if you ask for ketchup, they make you yell “WE NEED KETCHUP” to the entire restaurant and then anyone with a ketchup bottle must get up and bring it to your table. This resulted in anyone who needed ketchup being given 20+ bottles, covering most of their table space!

Overall Experience

We had a great time Whispering Canyon Café’s Breakfast. The price per adult for the breakfast skillet when we dined was $26. This is a great value for the food quality and quantity that we received. Not to mention, the entertainment that accompanied our meal made it extra fun!

After our meal, we always enjoy walking through the resort and looking at the décor before heading to the parks for the day.

Are you planning a trip to Whispering Canyon Café soon? Does this type of breakfast experience sound fun? If so, you’ll have to try Whispering Canyon.
