Wake Up Earlier

I know what you’re thinking…..”NO WAY”. If you’re like me, you can go to bed the night before with the best intentions of getting up earlier, however, when your alarm goes off, an extra 15 minutes is just too tempting.

There is something about waking up early that can really boost productivity. Not only do you have extra time in your day to accomplish various tasks, but you also have extra time in case you run into anything unexpected.

Accidentally spill your cup of coffee? No problem! You’ll have plenty of time to make a new one! I truly believe a productive morning routine begins with waking up early.

Start with Movement

Movement is medicine and is what helps to keepus agile as we age. Exercise, even for just 10 minutes, releases endorphins and helps to kickstart our energy for the day allowing for a more productive morning routine.

If you are someone who regularly exercises in the morning, you can relate. There is no feeling quite like getting a workout in before everyone else wakes up. This extra boost can help you have more energy and remain focused throughout your morning.

If aerobic exercise is not your cup of tea, try stretching, pilates or going for a walk. Just spending a few minutes dedicated to moving your body can help to increase your mood and set you up for success.  

Self-Reflection

Spending time in self-reflection is an important step for any morning routine. Depending on your creative inclinations and personal beliefs, this can look different for everyone.

Some self-reflection habits to try include journaling, meditating, praying, practicing affirmations and drawing. All of these outlets can be beneficial in creating a calm and centered morning.

The feeling of rushing and being stressed every morning can cause feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed. These feelings can carry over into your work, school or home life.

Beginning each day with some time to be at peace and reflection will allow for clearer thoughts moving forward and create a productive morning routine.

Eat Breakfast

It is commonly said that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. For me, this statement is very true. I find it hard to have a productive morning or even a productive day without eating breakfast.

Food is fuel. Not only does eating a good breakfast provide our body with all the energy it needs to attack the day, but it also provides our brain with power to stay focused and in a positive mood.

So a donut counts as breakfast, right? Wrong. Simply eating anything that sounds good morning doesn’t necessarily mean that we are optimizing our nutrition start to the day. Aim for foods that include protein and healthy fats to ensure that we are eating a well-balanced meal that will set us up for success.

Reaching for our phone as soon as the alarm sounds can be very tempting. While scrolling through social media or catching up on the news may feel important, it is not the best way to begin your day.

Have you ever been in a great mood until you picked up your phone to check the latest headline or social media post? That is because checking your phone, especially first thing in the morning, can take you away from yourself.

If you wait until you have completed your morning routine to check your phone, emails, the news etc. you will be more alert, have less stress and feel more present in the morning.
